Hypereutectic Zn–Al Alloys: Microstructural Development under Unsteady-State Solidification Conditions, Eutectic Coupled Zone and Hardness

The present study investigates the effects of Al content and solidification thermal parameters on microstructural development under transient heat flow conditions for two hypereutectic Zn–Al alloys: Zn-6wt.%Al Zn-11wt.%Al. alloys were directionally solidified had experimental cooling profiles monitored permitting rates growth to be determined along length (DS) castings. microstructure alloy is shown formed by eutectic colonies, constituted a mixture (Zn) (Al′) phases in form lamellae Zn-11wt.% pro-eutectic dendrites interdendritic regions. Growth laws are experimentally relating dendritic spacings rate rate. A diagram exhibiting coupled zone as function proposed, which shows different morphologies influenced composition parameters, that is, temperature gradient, synthesized (Ṫ = G.V). microhardness both Zn-11wt.%Al not depend scale resulting microstructure.
